Owner Jim Fitzgerald brings 50 years of equine experience to the Lexington Equine community.
Jim grew up on a dairy farm in County Cork, Ireland. While Jim’s father was a dairy farmer by trade, his passion was show jumpers, eventers, and fox hunters; so, Jim grew up showing and fox hunting at a young age.
After completing his compulsory education at boarding school, Jim spent two years show jumping with the famed Irish Kellet Riding Academy in County Kildare and from there completed the Farm Managers Training course at the Irish National Stud. Jim finished in the top of his class which gave him the resume to move to America and work for Spendthrift Farms in 1982. The rest is “history” as they say …
In 1995, Jim broke out and started his own farm KNOCKGRIFFIN, named after the parish in Ireland near Middleton, County Cork, where his mother was raised. For almost 30 years now, Jim has bred mares, weaned foals and prepped yearlings for sales in Saratoga, NY and Lexington, KY.
Over the years, Jim has managed to find the time to compete as an amateur eventer under the tutelage of Ralph Hill in Ocala, Florida and been Master of the Hunt at Woodford Hunt Club in Woodford County, Kentucky. In his free time you can find Jim with his daughter, Hannah.
Knockgriffin Farm is in the news. See how we’re making headlines.
